Zika Virus is a virus transmitted by mosquitoes that cause asymptomatic or mild infections like fever and rash in humans beings.

The Virus is Transmitted primarily through mosquito bites, these are the same mosquitos that spread Chikungunya and Dengue, these mosquitos lay eggs in or near standing water bodies like buckets, ponds, bowls, etc. They bite people and, live indoor or outdoor near people, the mosquito gets infected when it bites an infected person and then it spread the virus to other people through bites .

  • From mother to child

A pregnant woman who is already infected with this virus can pass the virus to her child during pregnancy or during the time of birth.

Anyone who lives or travels to a place where the risk of this virus is high and has not already been infected with the virus can get it from mosquito bites.

Zika virus treatment

There is no treatment of zika virus currently, care is supportive with treatment of pain and fever. The virus had been little-studied until the outbreak of 2015 and no specific medicine or antiviral are available till now, the advice is to avoid the risk of infection.

How to Prevent zika virus

  • Cover exposed skin by wearing long sleeve shirt and long pants.
  • Use an insect repellent
  • Apply sunscreen and let it dry and then apply insect repellent
  • Stay or sleep in air-conditioner room
  • Use bed net if the area where you sleep is exposed to outdoor
  • Eliminate standing water
  • Spray insectisides to kill mosquitoes
  • Avoid traveling to high risk places

  • Have Home cooked food
  • Drink 8 to 10 glass of water in a day
  • Have green vegetables as much as you can
  • Add garlic to your meal, garlic contains anti bacterial proerties
  • Have food items rich in immune boosting properties
  • Diet should be rich in vitamin- c

Affected age group of zika virus

According to the study, children in the age group of 0 to 20 have 21.8%, adults in the age group of 21 to 44 have 32.9%, people in the age group of 45 to 64 have 21.13% and old aged people who are 65 above have 24.17% rate.
