Decision taken to promote cloth shopping bags against the use of plastic carry bags in city markets, this campaign will start from Sector 20-C Market
Plastic Pouch above 50 Microns and Plastic Containers above 250 Microns are allowed for packing, clarifies MCC Officials.
CHANDIGARH, 8 JULY: A delegation of Chandigarh Byopar Mandal (CBM), MC Coordination Committee consisting of Charanjiv Singh, Sanjeev Chadha, Pritpal Singh Sodhi, Anand Syal and Jatinder Singh today held meeting with Dr. Vinay Mohan, MOH, Sh. Mohinder Pathak, Sh. Sandeep Dhanker and Sh. Gurmeet Singh, Health Supervisors to seek clarification about single use plastic banned items as there is confusion in Markets.
It has been now clarified by the officials that 19 items of single use plastic are banned as per list released by CPCC. It is also clarified that plastic pouch above 50 microns can be used for industrial or wholesale packing of pulses, bakery or any other such products. Similarly plastic containers of above 250 microns are allowed for food packing etc. for food joints and sweet shop owners.
CBM team also requested the MOH to maintain the cleanness of markets and install more dustbins in markets and also to replace the broken or damaged dustbins.
Also discussion was held about bringing awareness to increase use of cloth carry bags. Sh. Jatinder Singh, President, Market Welfare Association, Sector 20-C, Chandigarh told the officials that production of 3000 cloth bags of 14”x18” size is already under process and these bags will be kept in all shops of sector 20-C, market to be supplied to customers at a subsidized rate of Rs.15/- . Customer will be at liberty to return it later and take refund of Rs.15/-. If trial is successful, then 50000 such bags will be got manufactured by the CBM for distribution to shoppers and scheme will be extended to all other markets of city.
