CHANDIGARH, 6 JANUARY: A delegation of Chandigarh Beopar Mandal consisting of Charanjiv Singh, Diwakar Sahoonja, Parshotam Mahajan, Sanjeev Chadha and Ajay Bansal today called on Sh. Gurinder Singh Sodhi Joint Commissioner cum Chief Fire Officer to appraise him of the difficulty being faced by shopkeepers of the city markets working in 50-60 years old buildings because of the fire notices by fire and rescue services wing of Municipal Corporation because of non feasible norms of fire fighting systems.
Charanjiv Singh, President, CBM and Former Councilor who led the delegation took the issue of fire notices in the city markets and said that the norms fixed by the M.C. to install fire fighting instruments in the 50-60 years old buildings are not feasible appealed to the Joint Commissioner to come out with viable norms with easy to install fire gadgets and stop sending notices in the markets.
Diwakar Sahoonja, Patron, CBM said now with proposed 24 X 7 water supply with pressure in the city there is no need for overhead water tanks which even the old buildings are not strong enough to sustain.
Parshotam Mahajan, Patron of CBM told the officer that since most of commercial buildings have more than one old tenants hence such changes in buildings and installation of gadgets not possible
Sanjeev Chadha, Gen. Secy., CBM said instead of suggesting so many non feasible changes the Corporation must come out with practical solution so that public safety is ensured and there is no big financial burden on shopkeepers. Ajay Bansal representing Sector-11, Market said such notices be issued only to new buildings whereas for old buildings fire alarms and extinguishers are more than enough which they are ready to install. Joint Commissioner assured the CBM delegation to take up traders view point with Commissioner MCC and other higher authorities to resolve the issue.
