The family members of the teachers also sat on hunger strike on 26th day in DAV College, protested against the Punjab government by taking out a protest march on Madhya Marg

CHANDIGARH: With no effort in sight on the part of the state government to reach out to the protesting teachers the family members of the teachers joined them in the hunger strike as the total work shutdown entered it’s 26th day today at the DAV College Chandigarh. They also took out a protest march on the Madhya Marg to apprise the general public about the Government’s condemnable decision to delink the teachers’ payscales from the UGC. They also made the public aware about the how the State Govt. has been dragging it’s feet since six years over implementation of the 7th CPC in the state as while teachers in the rest of the country have already been provided the benefits.

President of DVCTU, Sumit Goklaney said that since the State Government was taking decisions that will destroy the future of higher education in Punjab, they have been left with no other option but to boycott their duties & leave the comforts of their homes in the chilly winters to sit on a hunger strike indefinitely.

Four members were on chain hunger strike from 9-5 pm Dr. Sutapa Saryal, Mrs. Deepti Madaan (both from Dav College Chandigarh) and Mrs Deepti Sharda & Dr Mandeep K. Chawla (both from Mcm DAV College for women).In the evening 3 members from PU namely, Dr. Kulwinder, Dr Sudhir Mehra & Dr Harmail joined the hunger strike for the night (5 pm today – 9 am tomorrow).
