Ranji Trophy: Yash Dhull becomes India’s third cricketer to score a century in every innings on debut

Winning captain of India’s Under-19 World Cup, Yash Dhull began his cricket career in style as he scored a century in each innings of his Ranji Trophy debut for Delhi against Tamil Nadu in Guwahati.

Yash Dhul became the third cricketer after Nari Contractor (Gujarat) and Virat Swathe (Maharashtra) to score a century in each innings on his Ranji Trophy debut.

Winning captain of Under-19 World Cup, who has been a career middle-order batsman, was asked to open against a formidable home team like Tamil Nadu and came in flying colors with 113 not out.

Dhull and Dhruv Shorey (107 not out) added 228 not out in the second innings.

The India Under-19 captain along with five other teammates had tested Covid-19 positive after scoring a 100-ball 82 against South Africa in the opening game of the World Cup. He did not play the next two games but came back against Bangladesh in the quarter-finals to lead his team to a five-wicket victory with an unbeaten 20. With a run-a-ball 110, he showed his class in semi-final against Australia. The right-handed batsman scored 229 runs in four innings at the Under-19 World Cup at an average of 76.33 and a strike rate of 85.44.

In both the innings against Tamil Nadu, the Delhi opener was impressive with his strokes and strike rotation. The pace of his innings showed that he can climb the ladder and play at this level. The ease with which he played cut and pull was pleasing to the eye.

The match ended in a draw and Tamil Nadu took the first-innings lead and went on to take three points.
