No harassment of general traders of city or door to door survey by GST department while identifying fake GST dealers assures AETC

Chandigarh Beopar Mandal fears likely return of inspector raj if door to door survey undertaken by GST department

CHANDIGARH, 19 MAY: A delegation of Sales Tax Co-ordination Committee of Chandigarh Beopar Mandal consisting of Charanjiv Singh., President, Ram Karan Gupta, Advisor cum Chairman, GST Co-ordination Committee, Diwakar Sahoonja, Patron, Sanjeev Chadha, General Secretary and Naresh Mahajan, General Secretary respectively of Chandigarh Beopar Mandal, the Apex Body of traders of city today called on Sh. Alok Passi, AETC for forwarding apprehension of trading community of city about likely harassment of traders if a door to door survey is conducted by GST department as per recent newspaper reports although Union Govt. directions have been to nab fake or bogus GST dealers in the system.

CBM delegation cautioned the officer against likely panic which can result during any such door to door survey by Excise and Taxation department. The end of Inspector Raj by replacing it with E-certifications and facilities has been claimed a big trader friendly measure by ruling party hence it was appealed by Chandigarh Beopar Mandal to pursue such surveys only on the basis of some substantial inputs rather than door to door visits by taxation officials. The officer assured the delegation that primary focus of department shall be to identify any fake GST registration by bogus identities and at bogus addresses.

On appeal by AETC, CBM agreed to spread awareness amongst GST dealers of city to follow mandatory norms like display of GST number on the address board of firm, display of registration certification near cash counter, intimation in GST certificate of any additional premises by a registered dealer.

Ram Karan Gupta, Advisor cum Chairman, GST Co-ordination Committee handed over memorandum of CBM to the AETC.
