A special CBI court in Ranchi sentenced RJD leader Lalu Prasad Yadav. The former Chief Minister of Bihar attended the hearing through videoconferencing.
On Monday a special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court in Ranchi sentenced Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Lalu Prasad Yadav, to five years imprisonment and imposed a fine on him of Rs. 60 lakh in the Rs.139 crore fodder scam case. .
The RJD supremo was convicted in the case on February 15 and was to be sentenced today. The CBI court has found Yadav guilty of illegal withdrawal of Rs 139.35 crore from the Doranda treasury.
The 73-year-old veteran politician, who was transferred from Hotwar jail to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Ranchi after his conviction last week, was earlier sentenced to 14 years in jail in four other Dumka-related cases. Deoghar and Chaibasa Treasury in Jharkhand.
Yadav’s counsel had said that the senior leader would attend Monday’s hearing through videoconferencing. He was present in the court last Tuesday when the verdict was pronounced.
A total of 170 people were made accused in the Doranda Treasury scam case. Of these, 55 have died, seven of these have become government witnesses, six are absconding and two have accepted the charges against them. In the remaining 99 accused, including Yadav, the CBI court gave its verdict last week.
