Inter-schools, Inter- colleges Gatka competitions on the anvil, 4th Tricity Virsa Sambhal Gatka Championship’ to be held in January
CHANDIGARH: Five Gatka training centers to be set up in different sectors of Chandigarh to impart free training in Gatka game in accordance with the prescribed rules besides Gatka competitions would soon be conducted in schools and colleges and the ‘Fourth Tri-City Virsa Sambhal (Traditional) Gatka Championship’ will be held at Sector 34 in January.
These decisions have been taken today during the annual general meeting of the executive of the Chandigarh Gatka Association (CGA), affiliated with the National Gatka Association of India. President of National Gatka Association S. Harjeet Singh Grewal State Awardee attended the meeting as an observer.
Speaking after the meeting, the President of CGA and former senior Deputy Mayor of Municipal Corporation Hardeep Singh Butrela and General Secretary Rajdeep Singh Bali informed that the executive have reviewed the work done and the future planning so as to make the traditional game Gatka popular and also chalked out modalities with regard to impart free Gatka training and to hold state level championship in the coming months besides conducting traditional competitions.
He informed that Gatka training was temporarily stopped in all Gatka training centers due to the pandemic of Covid-19 but now from October this, free Gatka training centers would be made operational at Sector 40, Sector 49, Sector 22, Sector 28/ Manimajra and Punjab University. Apart from this, inter-school and inter-college competitions would also be conducted among Gatka teams of Chandigarh based schools and colleges. Moreover, he added that the 4th Tri-city Virsa Sambhal Gatka Championship would also be organised in the month of January in which top Gatka teams from Chandigarh, Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar and Panchkula would participate.
On the occasion Hardeep Singh Butrella and National President Harjeet Singh Grewal also announced the office bearers of Chandigarh Gatka Association in which Sukhjinder Singh Yogi and Ajit Singh Superintendent unanimously elected as Senior Vice Presidents, Gurdeep Singh Saini as Vice President, Engineer Rajdeep Singh Bali as General Secretary, Ranjit Singh Jammu as Assistant Secretary, Simranjit Singh as Finance Secretary, Gurcharan Singh and Bibi Charanjit Kaur, both Joint Secretaries, Maninder Singh State Coordinator, Yograj Singh and Inderjit Singh, both Senior State Coaches were appointed.
Bibi Charanjit Kaur has also been appointed as the Coordinator of Women Wing of CGA. He informed that Chandigarh zonal coordinators would be appointed shortly after dividing the city into five zones. On this occasion, all the office bearers pledged that they would continue to work diligently for the progress of the Gatka game in the UT.
Among others present in the meeting included President of District Gatka Association Shahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar Kanwar Harbir Singh Dhindsa, Vice President Lakhveer Singh and General Secretary Harpreet Singh Sarao.
