CHANDIGARH: The ongoing complete shut down of the academic and administrative work by the College and University teachers against the Punjab Government entered its 21th day today. Today a dharna was held at SGGS College College Sec 26 Chandigarh, in which well over 200 teachers participated. Prominent speakers condemned the Punjab Government for not implementing the recommendations of the 7th CPC due since January 2016 and delinking the Higher Education in the State from UGC. They were also critical of the Govt. for considering teachers as second class citizen and not prioritizing higher education in their agenda.
The chain hunger strike under the aegis of PFUCTO and PCCTU entered its sixteenth day today with an all-women volunteer panel namely, Dr. Shruti Shourie, Dr. Pratibha Dhundia, Prof. Anu Sharma, Dr. Mukesh Ahlawat and Dr. Tina Khatri (all from DAV College, Chd) sitting on the hunger strike from 9 am to 5 pm, and Dr. Neeru Malik (Dev Samaj College for Education, Sec 46), Dr. Meenu Wats, Prof. Kavita Anand, Dr. Ritu Sharma & Dr. Rama Kumari (all from DAV College, Chd) continuing the strike from 5 pm today to 9 am tomorrow.
Dr. Sumit Goklaney (President, DAVCTU) said that all teachers from DAV College Chandigarh would sit on hunger strike on 23rd December in support of the demands of the Higher Education sector of the state, in wake of the Cabinet Meeting that day.
