BSF Head Constable Johnson Toppo of 117 Battalion shot HG Shekharan, Head Constable of the same battalion, before firing his service rifle.
KOLKATA, 07 MARCH: A Border Security Force (BSF) head constable shot his colleague before killing himself with his service rifle at a border post at Sagarpara in Murshudabad district at around 6:45 am on Monday.
“Johnson Toppo, Head-Constable of 117 Battalion shot head Constable HG Shekharan, Head Constable of the same Battalion. Then he shot himself with his service rifle,” said SS Guleria, DIG South Bengal Frontier of BSF.
Both the victims were taken to a nearby hospital where doctors declared them dead.
Senior BSF officials, including BSF’s South Bengal Frontier Inspector General Atul Fuljele, reached the spot. A Court of Inquiry has been constituted and a case has been registered with the police.
A statement issued by the BSF said, “Both the personnel were to go to the Raninagar police station to give a statement in respect of a case of November 2021.”
