CHANDIGARH, 18 SEPTEMBER: Amid the raging controversy surrounding the alleged leak of videos of Chandigarh University students, university authorities on Sunday maintained that no such incident took place. The accused, who was arrested last night, had shared her personal video with her boyfriend, the university claimed, denying reports that 60 such videos had gone viral.
In a statement, Dr. RS Bawa, the university’s vice-chancellor, said the claim that 60 such offending MMS were found is false and baseless. The university conducted a preliminary investigation in which it found no such video except for a personal video taken by the girl that she shared with her boyfriend.
What the university said also found support from the police, who confirmed that only one video was found, which the accused confessed to making, said Mohali SSP Vivek Soni.
Contrary to the students’ claims that the university management tried to sweep the matter under the carpet, the authorities said that they had called the police to investigate at the request of the students.
When it comes to rumors of students attempting suicide, the university and the police are on the same page as both have dismissed the reports as rumours. Police said one girl suffered an anxiety attack during yesterday’s protest.
RS Bawa said that rumor of circulation of 60 inappropriate MMS of students in the media have been found. This is completely false and baseless. During the preliminary investigation conducted by the university, no objectionable videos of any student were found except for a personal video made by a girl who she herself shared to her friend,”
“The rumors about the videos made by other female students are completely false. On the request received from the students, Chandigarh University itself has volunteered for further investigation to the Punjab Police Department, which has arrested one girl and filed an FIR under the IT Act.” RS Bawa said that all phones and other material have been handed over to Punjab police for investigation and Chandigarh University is fully cooperating with Punjab police in the investigation.”
