MANDI GOBINDGARH, 11 JANUARY: DBU (Desh Bhagat University) organized School Connect Program and Lohri Carnival in collaboration with Youth Welfare Department in campus. Lohri is a popular mid-winter Punjabi folk festival celebrated on 13th January every year. To make this festival memorable, Desh Bhagat University celebrated Lohri festival with great fanfare on 11 January 2024 in the students center courtyard. About 3000 students and 300 teachers from 40 convent schools of Patiala, Ludhiana, Fatehgarh Sahib, Mohali, Malerkotla and Bhawanigarh participated in Lohri Carnival and school connect program. The Principals and teachers of different schools felicitated in the fields of education.
The celebration began with immense joy, excitement and fanfare. On this occasion Dr. Zora Singh, Hon’ble Chancellor of Desh Bhagat University as chief guest, Dr. Tajinder Kaur, Pro Chancellor , guest of honour, Dr. Sandeep Singh, President and Dr. Harsh Sadawarti,Vice President we’re special guests of the event.
Dr. Zora Singh, Chancellor while addressing the students of the school and Desh Bhagat University informed about the importance of this holy festival and while increasing their knowledge said that Lohri is famous festival in North India and especially in Punjab and Haryana. He congratulated the students and teachers on New Year and Lohri festival.
Dr. Tejinder Kaur, Pro-Chancellor also wished the faculty and staff members, students a very happy lohri. She said that this festival is celebrated with great enthusiasm as the first Lohri in the house where a boy is born. But nowadays people have erased the difference between sons and daughters and daughters’ Lohri is also celebrated with great fanfare. She said that the history of Lohri is also connected with the story of Dulla Bhatti.
On this occasion, Dr. Col. Pardeep Kumar. Registrar, Dr. Virinder Singh, Advisor to Chancellor, Dr. Surjit Kaur Patheja, Director Media and faculty members congratulated the festival of Lohri and welcome the Principals, teachers and students of different schools..
The students were dressed in traditional costumes. Desh Bhagat University had set up knowledge stalls of various departments for the students. Students and teachers from Patiala, Ludhiana, Fatehgarh Sahib, Mohali, Malerkotla and Bhawanigarh enjoyed the song music in Lohri Carnival and praised the arrangements made by university. Principals, Teachers and students of the different schools were also honored with trophies by the university.
