CHANDIGARH, 4 JULY: A delegation of CBM, MC Coordination Committee consisting of Charanjiv Singh, Sanjeev Chadha, Radhey Lal, Sushil Bansal, Gaurav Jindal along with traders of Sector 22-B, Chandigarh today called on Mrs. Sarbjeet Kaur, Mayor and Sh. Rohit Gupta, Joint Commissioner, MCC to convey resentment of traders over issuance of notice in Lac of Rupees under Advertisement Control Act. Below mentioned issues were taken up:-
- It is submitted that notices have been issued to small traders working in the cabins of Upper Floors of S.C.O. No.1074-75, Sector 22-B, Chandigarh under Advertisement Control order 1954 amounting to Lac of Rupees which is unreasonable and beyond the capacity of these small traders to pay such hefty amount. Above all these boards are not having any type of advertisement; it is only displaying names of the shops which are only signage which cannot be covered under Advertisement Control Act. So request was made to withdraw these.
- A practice should be started to give notice if any such violation is found and 10-15 days time should be given to remove. Also opportunity of being heard should be given before calculating such charges.
- As signage panels are basic part of any business establishment and needed for public awareness and identification of commercial activity, hence such display of panel for each upper floor should be allowed on the pattern of ground floor. These floors have been already converted from SCF to SCO and then SCO to SCS after paying huge amount of charges to Chandigarh Administration.
MC Officer assured the delegation to reexamine the notices issued to Sector 22 traders. He was kind enough to assure the delegation that Panels/Boards on the Upper Floors of Buildings will be allowed if it contains only name, address and type of business being carried out and put up at designated places. Regarding 10-15 prior notice, he assured to take decision after consultation with higher authorities.
