Ukraine War: Thousands of Indians are still trapped in the war-torn country.
Ukraine-Russia War, 01 MARCH: India has told its citizens stuck in Ukraine in the midst of war – ‘Leave Kyiv immediately today’. “All Indian citizens including students are advised to leave Kyiv immediately today. Preferably by available trains or by any other means available (sic),” a statement tweeted by the Indian Embassy in Ukraine read. On the outskirts of the Ukrainian capital Satellite images have captured Russian tanks. In a week, it saw fighting in the streets and attacks on residential buildings.
With thousands still stranded in the war-torn country, India is trying to speed up the evacuation process. So far, nearly 8,000 people have been repatriated after Russia launched a “full-scale” invasion of Ukraine last week.
In a tweet, Britain’s Defense Ministry said. “As Russian forces have increased their use of heavy artillery north of Kyiv and around Kharkiv and Chernihiv will increase the risk of civilian casualties ” Stating that “So far, Russian advance on Kyiv has made little progress”.
To discuss the Ukraine crisis Prime Minister Narendra Modi has held three high-level meetings since Sunday. Earlier on Tuesday, he had met President Ram Nath Kovind to discuss the issue. Sources said that he has also called upon the Indian Air Force to join the evacuation efforts under Operation Ganga. Last week, he spoke to Russia’s Vladimir Putin and Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky to discuss security concerns.
About half a million people have fled the country in the midst of the Ukraine war. Meanwhile, Kyiv is trying to put up a strong resistance against Moscow.
