2022 Assembly Elections Live Updates, Punjab Voting, UP Phase 3 Elections: Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, saying the CM-candidate is “insecure” about his seat and had to plead to his father which he had “humiliated” in order to capture the party, to save him from defeat in the constituency. “You must have seen, father who pushed off the stage was humiliated and the party was captured, he had to plead to him to save the seat,” news agency PTI quoted the Prime Minister as saying. Referring to the Karhal seat at an election rally in Unnao on Sunday, Modi said, “You can guess the direction of the wind… The seat which these people considered safest is also becoming out of their reach” From where Yadav is contesting from the family stronghold of Mainpuri.
Meanwhile, 63.44 per cent polling was recorded in Punjab till 5 pm on Sunday, while it stood at 57.44 per cent in Uttar Pradesh. Voting for the third phase of Uttar Pradesh assembly elections began at 7 am on Sunday in 59 assembly seats, while in Punjab polling began at 8 am.
In Punjab, a multi-cornered contest is expected between the ruling Congress, AAP, the SAD-BSP alliance, the BJP-PLC-SAD (United) and the United Samaj Morcha. Prominent faces contesting elections in Punjab are CM Charanjit Singh Channi, Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu, Aam Aadmi Party chief Bhagwant Mann, former CMs Amarinder Singh and Parkash S Badal and Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal. A total of 627 candidates are in the fray for the third phase of seven-phase elections in UP. In this phase, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav will contest from Karhal assembly seat in Mainpuri district. BJP has fielded Union Minister SP Singh Baghel from there.
